Exquisite Moon Landing Design
The concave obverse features a stunning image of the moon landing. The lunar surface forms a circle on the rim. An astronaut and the lunar module stand on it. In the distance is the earth in vivid green and blue along with glow in the dark stars. The coin's face value, "20 EURO," joins its country, "REPUBLIK OSTERREICH," and the date, "2019," along the rim.
The convex reverse captures the curvature of the lunar surface, which takes up this entire face of the coin. "APOLLO 11" is inscribed near the landing target in the Sea of Tranquility. Rim inscriptions offer the event and date commemorated by the issue, reading, "ERSTE MONDLANDUNG 21 JULI 1969."

The successful Apollo 11 Mission and the landing of the first men on the Moon was a distinctly American triumph. Although the bulk of the credit rightfully goes to the nation behind the mission, other countries also made extremely valuable – and often overlooked – contributions to it.
