Why does this triangular-shaped 2019 Batavia Shipwreck silver bullion coin belong in your collection?
The world's first-ever triangular-shaped silver bullion coin is the first release of the Royal Australian Mint's four-coin series commemorating famed Australian Shipwrecks. The coin honors the Batavia, which sunk off the coast of Western Australia on its 1629 maiden voyage. This 2019 dated bullion coin is struck from 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver, its mintage limited to 20,000.
Exceptional Shipwreck Imagery by Adam Ball
The innovative, reverse image of the Batavia features the glory and demise of the magnificent vessel. With the inscriptions "1629," "1oz .999 Ag" and "BATAVIA" viewed upside-down, the ship is illustrated safely sailing, surrounded by a collage of design elements from the ship. When the inscriptions are upright, the ship appears to be capsized beneath the ocean's surface.
The obverse depicts the mutinous battle scene between members of the stranded crew as the Batavia sinks in the background. Jody Clark's rendition of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is centered above, surrounded by the legend "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2019," with "ONE DOLLAR" inscribed below.
Stunning Brilliant Uncirculated Coin
This 2019 Australian Shipwreck Series 1 oz. Silver bullion coin tribute to the Batavia is presented in ungraded, Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition. The triangular-shaped silver dollar is superbly minted, featuring a sharp strike, nearly perfect surfaces and outstanding eye appeal. The coin will arrive in a specially designed triangular capsule.
