Why purchase this 2019 Antiqued Silver coin celebrating the first successful flight from England to Australia?
This innovative coin is a tribute to the 100th Anniversary of the first flight from England to Australia. The coin features a rotating gold-plated propeller insert at the center, an homage to the open cockpit Vickers Vimy plane that completed the flight under the leadership of Captain Ross Smith and his brother Lieutenant Keith Smith. The 2019 coin was struck at the Perth Mint from 2 Troy oz. of .9999 fine silver with a dramatic antiqued finish. Mintage is limited to only 2,000 coins.
Imagery Commemorating the 1919 Flight
The reverse collage depicting the Vickers aircraft, a mountainous landscape and a map marked with the historic flight route surrounds the propeller insert. The exceptionally detailed image by designer Jennifer McKenna includes the inscriptions "CENTENARY OF FIRST FLIGHT," "ENGLAND TO AUSTRALIA" and the Perth Mint's "P" Mint mark.
On the obverse, Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II appears above the propeller. Inscribed "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA," "2 OZ 999 AG," "2019" and "2 DOLLARS."
