Why buy this Apollo 11 2019 50th Anniversary Commemorative Silver Dollar?

Share in the US Mint's commemoration of one of the greatest accomplishments in human history, man's first visit to the moon, with this 2019 commemorative silver dollar. The coin is perfect for star gazers and anyone who is looking for inspiration to achieve what others consider impossible. Part of a mintage of 400,000 pieces, this coin was struck from 26.73 g of .999 fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint.

Powerful Footprint Design by Gary Cooper

Gary Cooper's artwork was selected from among several candidates to feature on the obverse. Joseph Menna engraved Cooper's design, which features a footprint on the surface of the moon. Along the rim at the top, the words "MERCURY," "GEMINI," and "APOLLO" are interspersed with the moon in various phases. This represents the progress of the US space program up to the lunar mission. Other inscriptions on this face include "LIBERTY," the date, "2019," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST."

The convex reverse is the space helmet that was worn by Buzz Aldrin. The bulk of the design is a reflection from his mask, which consists of Neil Armstrong standing between the lunar module and the American flag on the surface of the moon. "ONE DOLLAR" is inscribed on the top portion of the visor. The top and bottom of the mask bear inscriptions that read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one), respectively.

Flawless MS70 FDI with Moon Core Holder

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified that this coin is in perfect condition as seen under 5x magnification by awarding it their highest grade, Mint State 70 (MS70). NGC further labeled the coin First Day of Issue (FDI), an exclusive designation that is only given to coins that were submitted for grading through an exclusive submission process. The grading company has set the coin in a moon core holder, which replicates the surface of the moon and MCM has bundled this inspiring coin with a replica of the patch worn by the Apollo 11 Astronauts.
