Why order this 7-Piece 2019 Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Commemorative Set with Space-Flown Alloy?
For any collector with an interest in space exploration, this commemorative set, which comes with a piece of Apollo flown Kapton Foil, would take pride of place. The Kapton Foil was directly exposed to space on an Apollo mission, while the coin set consists of each of the seven pieces issued by the U.S Mint to mark the 50th anniversary of man's first walk on the moon. The Apollo 11 mission was not just a milestone in space exploration but also a tremendous victory for the United States in its Space Race with the Soviet Union. These are just the second ever set of domed releases from the US Mint.
Breathtaking Moon Visit Design by Phebe Hemphill
All seven coins in the set share the same designs. On Gary Cooper's obverse, a single footprint on the surface of the moon is at the center. It is a poignant yet simple symbol of the achievement. Arching over the footprint are the names of the programs that led up to the moon landing, "MERCURY," "GEMINI," and "APOLLO." Images of the moon and different phases are also included.
The reverse is the convex face of this coin, which is domed to recreate the curvature of its centerpiece, the helmet of Buzz Aldrin's space suit. The reflection in the helmet's visor shows Neil Armstrong standing between the American flag and the lunar module on the surface of the moon. The face value of the particular coin is inscribed within the visor.
Flawless MS70 + PF70 FDI in Deluxe Presentation Case with Charlie Duke Signed labels
Each coin in this set received the highest grade given out by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), either Proof 70 or Mint State 70. Both indicate that a coin is in perfect condition as seen under 5x magnification. They were also all certified First Day of Issue. Each label was hand signed by astronaut Charlie Duke, who was the youngest person ever to set foot on the surface of the moon. The coins come along with the Kapton Foil in a deluxe presentation case.
