Why add this $5 Gold 2019 Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Commemorative to your collection?

This $5 Gold Commemorative marks the fiftieth anniversary of one of man's greatest accomplishments and one of America's biggest psychological victories during the Cold War: man's first visit to the moon. The coin is perfect for patriotic Americans, those with a pioneering spirit, and anyone looking for inspiration. This piece was struck at the West Point Mint on an 8.359 g planchet of .900 fine gold. It bears a "W" mint mark on the obverse. Part of a mintage of 50,000, this coin along with its counterparts mark just the second time that the US mint has issued domed coins.

Exquisite Footprint Design by Gary Cooper

The obverse features Gary Cooper's footprint design, which won a contest to earn the spot. It depicts a single footprint on the surface of the moon. The four phases of the moon join the names of the NASA programs that led up to the seminal accomplishment, "MERCURY," "GEMINI," and "APOLLO," on the top half of the rim. Also included on this face are the inscriptions "2019," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "LIBERTY."

The reverse is convex to mimic the shape of Buzz Aldrin's helmet. The bulk of that helmet is his visor, on which there is a reflection. That reflection consists of Neil Armstrong standing between the American flag, which was planted on the moon's surface, and the lunar module. The coin's face value, "FIVE DOLLARS," is inscribed above the flag. The top of Aldrin's helmet bears the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," while the bottom of it reads, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one).

Flawless MS70 FDI with Moon Core Holder

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) gave this coin their highest grade, Mint State 70. That grade is reserved exclusively for coins that are in perfect condition as seen under 5x magnification. The grading company also designated the coin First Day of Issue, thus indicating that it was submitted under an exclusive process. The coin comes set in a moon core holder that looks like the surface of the moon and is completed by a detailed recreation of the Apollo 11 Mission Patch.
