Why order this 4-Piece Commemorative 2019 Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Proof Set with Space-Flown Ablative Plug?

This four coin set features each of the commemorative proofs issued by the US Mint to mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission, which landed men on the moon for the first time. While patriotic collectors are sure to appreciate the set on account of the event's significance as an American Cold War victory, collectors with an interest in space exploration will be particularly interested in the Apollo-flown ablative plug that comes with the set. This plug was directly exposed to space on an Apollo mission and puts a small, but critical part of the mission's history in your hand. All four coins in the set share common designs.

Exquisite Lunar Photo Design by Phebe Hemphill

Designed by Gary Cooper, the obverse features the names of the NASA programs that made the moon landing possible, "MERCURY," "GEMINI," and "APOLLO," arching over a footprint on the lunar surface. Interspersed among the program names are images of the moon in different phases. The footprint represents the simplicity and profundity expressed in Neil Armstrong's statement, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

Designed and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, the reverse design is based on a photograph that was taken during Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin's visit to the moon. It is dominated by the helmet of Buzz's spacesuit and in particular his visor. The coins are domed to mimic the curvature of that helmet. Reflected in the visor is an image of Neil Armstrong standing between the lunar module and the American flag. The face value of the respective coin is depicted in the upper left corner of the visor.

Perfect PF70 FDI in Deluxe Presentation Case with Charlie Duke Signed labels

Charlie Duke, the youngest man ever to walk on the face of the moon, hand signed the labels on which Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) provided its grading information. That information includes perfect Proof 70 grades and First Day of Issue certification for each coin. The coins and the ablative plug come in a stunning deluxe presentation case.

Don't miss your chance to own this Apollo 11 50th Anniversary 2019 4-Piece Commemorative Proof Set with Space-Flown Ablative Plug.
