Why add this perfectly graded 2019 American Gold Buffalo bullion coin to your collection?
The American Buffalo series was launched in 2006 as the U.S. Mint's first legal tender coin comprised of 24 karat gold. Imagery for the series features a revival of both the Indian Head and Buffalo designs which first appeared on the Type 1 Buffalo Nickel in 1913. The iconic imagery is the work of acclaimed early 20th century sculptor James Earle Fraser, who based the imagery on his own childhood experiences on the Western Frontier.
Imagery Inspired by the Western Frontier
Obverse: The obverse features a portrait of a Native American chief with his hair braided, secured with leather cord and embellished with feathers. The background is textured with a hammered effect. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "2019" and Fraser's initial "F."
Reverse: A majestic American Buffalo is depicted standing on the reverse, contrasted against a similar hammered background. Black Diamond, an American buffalo that lived at the New York Central Park Zoo in the early 1900s, served as Fraser's model for the meticulously rendered image. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD" and "$50."
