Why add this $50 American 2019 1 oz Gold Eagle to your collection?
Collectors throughout the world are drawn to the American Gold Eagle Series not only because of its backing for weight and purity by the US government, but also because of its stunning beauty. The series began in 1986 and has since become the world's most collected bullion coin. This 2019 edition, the latest in the series, was struck on a one ounce planchet of .9167 fine gold at the West Point Mint. It is an ideal way to start or grow a collection of either American or gold coins.
Treasured Saint-Gaudens Design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens
On the obverse is a design that most collectors consider to be the most beautiful in the history of American numismatics. It takes its name from the man who designed it, Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Liberty stands at the center facing the holder against a backdrop of the rays of the morning sun extending outward from behind her. Her hair and garment are blown by a strong wind, yet she stands firm with one foot elevated upon a rock. She extends forward her torch, a beacon of freedom for people throughout the world, and she holds an olive branch off to her side, indicating that she would like peace. On the left is a small rendering of the Capitol Dome, and along the rim fifty stars encircle the image. The number of stars was adapted from the original double eagle design to account for the four states that have since been added to the union.
The reverse design features a family of eagles, America's national bird. A male prepares to land in its nest with an olive branch in tow. Below, his mate watches his return as she tends to their young. Several inscriptions spread throughout the remaining space. They include but are not limited to the coin's weight, "1 OZ. FINE GOLD," its face value, "50 DOLLARS," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST."
