The American Silver Eagle has been produced by the U.S. Mint since 1986 and is currently produced with three different finishes; the bullion version the only one to not carry a Mint mark. This 2018 release is struck from 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver at the West Point Mint, authenticated by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), indicated by (W) on the certification label only.
Adolph A. Weinman's Gorgeous Walking Liberty Design
The obverse depicts Lady Liberty striding toward the rising sun enveloped in the American flag, cradling a bouquet of oak and laurel. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "2018" and "IN GOD WE TRUST."
The reverse, by John Mercanti, portrays a heraldic eagle behind a striped shield grasping arrows and an olive branch, inspired by the imagery of the Great Seal of the United States. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM".
Virtually Flawless Mint State 69 with First Day of Issue West Point Gold Star Label
This 2018-(W) 1 oz. American Silver Eagle is graded a nearly perfect Mint State 69 by NGC. The magnificent coin was submitted for grading within the first twenty-four hours of release and is enclosed in an NGC holder accompanied by a West Point Gold Star certification label designating the coin among those released from the West Point Mint on the First Day of Issue.
