Why add this First Day of Issue $50 Proof Gold American Buffalo struck in 2018 to your collection?

The United States Mint introduced the American Gold Buffalo series in 2006, its design originally created by James Earle Fraser for the Indian Head/Buffalo Nickel, which was minted from 1913 until 1938. This proof 2018 American Buffalo coin, struck at U.S. Mint's West Point facility in New York, carries a value of $50, struck from 1 full Troy oz. of .9999 fine gold (24 karat).

A Beautiful Coin Design is Re-born

The obverse features Fraser's American Indian in profile as originally minted in 1913, accompanied by the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "2018" and the "W" Mint mark from West Point.

The reverse depicts an American buffalo named Black Diamond, standing upon a dirt mound inscribed with "$50" and "1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD." Additional inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST."
