Why add the 2018-W 1 oz. Gold Buffalo Proof $50 Coin NGC PF70 UC to your collection?

This 2018-W 1 oz. Gold Buffalo Proof $50 Coin has earned the exemplary grade of Proof 70 (PF70) and the Ultra Cameo (UC) designation from Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). The U.S. Mint began striking their only ongoing .9999 pure gold coin series in 2006. By all measures, the Gold Buffalo series is an unquestioned success. Each legal tender $50 coin is struck from a 1 oz. .9999 fine gold planchet at the fabled West Point Mint facility.

Iconic Buffalo Design

The design is based on James Earle Fraser's timeless Type 1 Buffalo Nickel. The obverse features a Native American Chief with a braid and eagle feathers in his hair. It is said that this image was based on three different models. The reverse features the Water Buffalo--the iconic most symbol of the rough and tumble American West. The model used for this image is said to have been "Black Diamond"--the famous resident bison at the New York City Zoo in 1913!

Beautiful PF70 UC Perfection

PF70 graded coins are flawless examples coveted by collectors. The UC designation speaks to the desirable contrast apparent between the frosty details and the mirrored fields of the coin. The UC designation is only awarded to the highest quality proofs.
