Why does this flawless 2018-W Gold American Eagle coin with a burnished finish belong in your collection?
The American Gold Eagle series was introduced by the U.S. Mint in 1986. In celebration of the series' milestone 20th year of issue in 2006, the Mint added a satin-like burnished (uncirculated) variety of the coin to the series.
Breathtaking Patriotic Design
Obverse: Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse, rendered as designed by award-winning sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the 1907 Gold Double Eagle. Encircled by fifty stars, Ms. Liberty is depicted striding forward grasping an olive branch symbolizing peace and a torch representing freedom. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "W" and "2018." The symbolic design is the result of a collaboration between Saint-Gaudens and President Theodore Roosevelt.
Reverse: A design by sculptor Miley Busiek adorns the reverse, illustrating a family of eagles in a nest, with a male eagle carrying an olive branch in flight nearby. Ms. Busiek's inspiration for the image came from the words of Ronald Reagan, during his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention in 1980. This eagle family graphic is now known as the Type-1 style Gold Eagle reverse, which was struck an all releases dated 1986 through mid-2021.
