Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) received this Proof 2018-W American Gold Eagle for grading within twenty-four hours of its release on March 1, 2018. The coin is sonically sealed in a high contrast NGC Black core holder accompanied by a First Day of Issue certification label, hand signed by John Mercanti, the U.S. Mint's 12th Chief Engraver. The proof was deemed to be in virtually perfect Proof 69 condition by NGC and additionally designated Ultra Cameo (UC), for the extraordinary contrast between the frosted and mirrored finishes.
