Why purchase this 2018 Voyageurs National Park 5 oz. Silver Specimen quarter?
The U.S. Mint's America the Beautiful Quarters series is a celebration of the national parks and historic sites of the United States and its territories. The 43rd release of the planned fifty-six coin series honors Minnesota's Voyageurs National Park. Established in 1975, the park features an intricate network of waterways, with the main land mass of the park only accessible by boat. This stunning 76.2 mm diameter specimen finish coin is struck from 5 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint.
Gorgeous Park Imagery by Patricia Lucas-Morris and Joseph Menna
The reverse features a dramatic close-up view of a common loon swimming along one of the park's waterways, with an imposing rock cliff and forest in the background. Inscriptions include "VOYAGEURS," "MINNESOTA," "2018" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM," with ".999 FINE SILVER 5.0 OUNCE" on the coin's edge.
The distinguished profile image of George Washington is centered on the obverse, as sculpted by John Flanagan in 1932, surrounded by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "P" and "QUARTER DOLLAR."
