Why buy this 2018 1 Rand South Africa 1 oz Silver Krugerrand Proof?
Starting in 1967, the Gold Kruggerand series has enticed collectors for more than half a century. Unlike most other gold issues, though, it had no silver counterpart... until 2017, when a Silver Proof Krugerrand was issued. This coin continues the rich tradition of the series, old and new. It was struck from one ounce of .999 fine silver at the South African Mint. It is part of a mintage of just 15,000 pieces. Whether you are a long time admirer of the gold series or just love silver animal-themed coins, this would make a great addition to your collection.
Classic Springbok Design by Coert Steynberg
The designs that appear on this Krugerrand date back to 1984. The obverse bears a left-side effigy of Paul Kruger, the third President of the South African Republic. His long beard stretches down to his chest. Rim inscriptions offer the name of the issuing country in Afrikaans, "SUID-AFRIKA," and English, "SOUTH AFRICA."
On the reverse is the animal that is most closely associated with the country, a springbok. The animal lends its name to the country's national sports teams. Designed by Coert Steynberg, the image shows the antelope bounding across the savanna. The image splits the date, "2018," and the name of the coin, "KRUGERRAND," arches along the rim at the top. The bottom half of the rim bears an inscription of the coin's weight, "FYNSILWER 1 OZ FINE SILVER R1."
Flawless PF70 with Black Core Holder and Springbok Label
This coin is in perfect condition as seen under 5x magnification according to the experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), who awarded it their highest grade, Proof 70. That grade comes on a label that features an image of the animal depicted on the coin, a springbok. The coin comes set in a sleek black core holder, which many collectors prefer to the more traditional white.
