Striking Madonna Design by Sid Maurer
The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley. Her image is encircled by inscriptions that include her name and essential information about the coin, such as its date, country, weight, and purity.
On the reverse is Sid Maurer’s portrait of Madonna. She has a pale complexion that makes her red lips and blue eyes stand out. Just to the left of her is the inscription “SID MAURER ARTWORK OF MADONNA.” In larger font, the name of the series, “LEGENDS OF MUSIC,” is inscribed along the rim on the left.
Maurer began working at Columbia Records at the age of 17. Throughout his career in the music industry, Maurer would interact with some of the most iconic musicians from the past decades, before leaving in the 1990s to pursue his passion for painting.
