Why purchase this 2018-S Proof Silver American Eagle?
Collectors looking for a unique addition to their Silver Eagle collection would do well to add this 2018-S Proof. The coin was struck from 1 oz. of .999 fine silver. The "S" mint mark of the San Francisco Mint is to the lower left of the reverse design.
Iconic Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman
The obverse design for the Silver Eagle Series was taken from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar. The morning sun rises on the left, while Liberty, who is draped in the American flag, carries branches on the right.
On the reverse is a design that John Mercanti created for the first Silver Eagle in 1986. He modeled the design off of the Great Seal of the United States. An eagle guards a union shield in the center. In its talons it holds arrows and an olive branch. Thirteen stars, one for each of the original states, are arranged in a triangular formation above its head.
Perfect PF70 UC FDI
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) gave this coin a Proof 70 grade, which is reserved for pieces that are perfect as seen under 5x magnification. NGC also certified the coin as an Ultra Cameo for its sharp contrasts between deeply mirrored fields and heavily frosted devices, as well as First Day of Issue, an designation reserved for coins that have undergone an exclusive submission process.
