Why buy this Proof 2018-S American Silver Eagle?
The American Silver Eagle Proof series dates back to 1986, the same year that the bullion series began. It is an annual favorite among collectors. This piece is particularly appealing because it bears the "S" mint mark of the San Francisco Mint. There, it was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver.
Featuring the Exquisite Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
Few designs in American numismatic history are as overtly patriotic as Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty, which features on the obverse. An American flag draped Liberty carries laurel and oak branches and wears a Phrygian cap. The branches represent honors bestowed upon civilians and members of the military, respectively, while the cap indicates that she is a freed slave. She strides to the left side of this face, extending her right hand in front of her above the morning sun. Joining her on this face are inscriptions of her name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2018."
The Great Seal of the United States served as the inspiration of John Mercanti's reverse design. An eagle spreads its wings while protecting a union shield. In its beak is a ribbon that bears the inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The bird also clutches arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. The arrows remind all that America is always prepared to defend her values, while the olive branch expresses a preference for pace. Above the eagle's head is a triangular arrangement of thirteen stars, one for each of the original states. Rim inscriptions encircling the image note the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," its weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and its purity, "ONE DOLLAR."
Flawless PF70 UC FDI with Bay Bridge Core Holder and Golden Gate Bridge Label
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) celebrates the city in which this coin was struck with a Bay Bridge Core and a Golden Gate Bridge label. The two bridges keep the pulse of San Francisco moving.
