Why order this 1 oz. Silver 2018-S Proof American Eagle?
The Silver Eagle is the world's favorite bullion coin for several reasons, not the least of which is its stunning obverse design. This proof features those same designs and offers the popular "S" mint mark of the San Francisco Mint. The coin was struck there from one ounce of .999 fine silver.
Patriotic Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman
The obverse design was taken from the Walking Liberty design of Adolph Weinman, which appeared on the half dollar from 1916-1947. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom, and is draped in the American flag. In her left hand, she bears branches of laurel and oak, which symbolize honors bestowed upon civilians and members of the military, respectively. She extends her right hand in front of her above the early morning sun.
The reverse design was the work of John Mercanti. Based on the Great Seal of the United States, it features thirteen stars, one for each of the original states, at the top. Below, an eagle guards a union shield while holding arrows and an olive branch.
Exceptional PF69 UC ER
This coin received a Proof 69 grade from the experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), which means that it appears nearly perfect to the naked eye. It also earned Ultra Cameo certification due to its sharp contrasts between deeply mirrored fields and heavily frosted devices on both sides.
