It was struck by the world famous Australian Perth Mint on a 5 oz. .9999 pure silver planchet. The Australian Wedge-Tailed Eagle series is a landmark collaboration between the artisans at the Perth Mint and the now-retired Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, John Mercanti, the designer of the series. The mintage was limited to 2,500 pieces. It is legal tender under the Australian Currency Act of 1965.
Multi-faceted Mercanti Eagle Design
The reverse features the image of the native Australian Wedge-Tailed Eagle in three different moods: a young eagle, a parent and a majestic flying symbol. The obverse of the coin features artist Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse of this issue is a one year only issue.
Attractive Proof in Mint Packaging
The coin was struck in a remarkable high relief and feature a proof finish. The raised design details appear with a mirror finish while the fields have a frosty appearance. GEM Proofs would grade at the PF65 level or higher. The coin comes in a presentation box with a Certificate of Authenticity.
