Why buy this 2018-Mo MF Mexican 1/20 oz Silver Libertad

This 1/20 oz. Silver 2018-Mo MF Mexico Libertad is part of the latest issue in an extremely popular series that began in 1982. It is the smallest of eight sizes of Silver Libertads, which makes it the most accessible to collectors who are on budgets. It was struck from .999 fine silver at the Casa de Moneda de Mexico, which is represented by a "Mo" Mint mark on the obverse.

Iconic Winged Victory Design

The obverse bears the Mexican coat of arms. An eagle perched upon a cactus is consuming a snake. While the historic symbolism is more complex, this has been reinterpreted by Westerners simply as a symbol of the triumph of good over evil. "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS" is inscribed above the image.

Winged Victory, a statue that stands as a symbol of Mexican independence in the country's capital, dominates the reverse. She is bare breasted, as her garment has fallen to her waist, and she has her wings and her right hand extended. In her left hand, she holds a broken chain, a symbol of the country's break from Spain. Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl, two volcanoes, rise in the distance. Because they are named for lovers in a pre-Colombian legend, this series is popular among lovers. Inscriptions providing the weight, metal content, date and purity arch over the image.
