Why purchase this perfectly graded 2018 Great Britain Year of the Dog Silver Coin?
The Shēngxiào Collection, the Royal Mint of Great Britain's Lunar year series, was introduced in 2014. The fifth release of the series celebrates the 2018 Year of the Dog, the eleventh animal of the twelve-year Chinese zodiac. Mintage of the coin is limited to 138,888 coins, each struck from 1 full Troy oz. of .999 fine silver, measuring 38.61 mm in diameter.
Enchanting Dog Design
An incredibly detailed terrier is depicted on the reverse, portrayed mid-leap against a rough textured background. The intricate design is the work of British-Chinese artist Wuon-Gean Ho, and is the fifth design of the Shēngxiào Collection she created for the Royal Mint. Inscriptions include the Chinese character for dog, "YEAR OF THE DOG 2018," and "1 OZ FINE SILVER 999."
The image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II adorns the obverse, created by Royal Mint Designer Jody Clark, framed by the legend "ELIZABETH II, D.G. REG. F.D., 2 POUNDS." The obverse field features a new guilloche styled design.
