Spectacular Commemorative Design
The reverse depicts a medieval style spiked gate held on each side by dangling lengths of chain, crested with a crown motif, surrounded by a beaded border. The design by Christopher Ironside includes the inscriptions “ONE PENNY” curving above, with “1” below.
The coin’s obverse depicts Royal Mint Designer Jody Clark’s portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, encircled by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II, DEI. GRA. REG. FID. DEF., 2018.”
