Why buy this £5 British 2018 2 oz. Silver Queen's Beasts Unicorn of Scotland
This 2018 £5 British 2 oz. Silver Queen's Beasts Unicorn of Scotland comes to us from the British Royal Mint, where it was struck from .9999 fine silver. The coin is part of the fourth issue in the Queen's Beasts Series, which will include ten coins in total, one for each of the creatures that were present in sculpture form at the 1953 coronation of Elizabeth II. It is a great option for collectors looking to begin or continue a historic series, as well as admirers of the monarchy.
Regal Unicorn of Scotland Design by Jody Clark
Both faces of this coin bear designs by Jody Clark. On the obverse is his portrait of reigning British monarch Queen Elizabeth II. Clark shows her wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem, the same headpiece she wore at her coronation. A new guilloche design enhances the effigy.
On the reverse is a pair of symbols of Scotland. The larger of the two is the Unicorn of Scotland, which has its front legs raised. One of those legs balances a shield that bears a lion rampant. "UNICORN OF SCOTLAND" is among several rim inscriptions.
