Why purchase this Early Releases 2018 Black Bull of Clarence 1/4 oz. Gold coin?
The fifth design of The Royal Mint's series dedicated to the ten fantastical heraldic Queen's Beasts sculptures features an image representing the power and strength of the Yorkist Kings, the Black Bull of Clarence. Introduced by the first King from the House of York, Edward IV, in 1461-1483, the Black Bull made its first appearance on English coinage in the 1560s. This 22 mm diameter coin is struck from 1/4 Troy oz. of .9999 fine gold.
Incredibly Detailed Designs by Royal Mint Coin Designer Jody Clark
A standing Black Bull is depicted on the obverse with a heraldic shield in the foreground ornamented with the House of York coat of arms. Inscriptions include "BLACK BULL OF CLARENCE" and "1/4 OZ FINE GOLD 999.9 2018."
The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by a guilloche patterned field. Inscribed "ELIZABETH II, D.G. REG. F.D., 25 POUNDS." Both images include the designer's initials "JC."
