Artistic dog design by Simon Ng
Long a fixture on Canadian coinage, Susanna Blunt's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II returns yet again on the obverse. Unlike the images of the monarch that appear on the currencies of other countries and territory's, Blunt's image does not include a tiara or a crown. Inscriptions on either side of the portrait offer her name and title, together reading, "ELIZABETH II D.G. REGINA" (Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, Queen).
Simon Ng's design on the reverse is a stunning rendering of man's best friend. The silhouette of the dog is filled with its floral charms oncidium and cymbidium, and includes a rose, one of its lucky flowers. Below is traditional Chinese latticework, which incorporates a flower as well. On the right is the Chinese symbol for "dog," while "2018," "CANADA" and "10 DOLLARS" are inscribed at the top.
