The reverse image is the creation of Chris Costello and Phebe Hemphill, illustrating the Block Island North Lighthouse at Cow Cove, with a black-crowned night-heron in gorgeous flight above. Inscriptions include "RHODE ISLAND," "BLOCK ISLAND," "2018" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
New York sculptor John Flanagan's 1932 sculpture of George Washington appears on the obverse, surrounded by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "QUARTER DOLLAR," with ".999 FINE SILVER 5.0 OUNCE" on the coin's smooth edge.

This 2018 America the Beautiful 5 oz. Silver bullion coin honoring the Block Island National Wildlife Refuge in Rhode Island has been reviewed by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and determined to be in nearly perfect Mint State 69 condition. The coin has also been certified Deep Prooflike (DPL), possessing deeply mirrored fields and heavily frosted design elements on each surface. Submitted for grading within the first thirty days of release, the coin is designated First Releases.
