Why order this $5 2018 1/10 oz. Gold American Eagle?
Collectors looking for a perfect yet affordable coin that bears the most iconic design in numismatic history would do well to get this $5 American 2018 1/10 oz. Gold Eagle. The coin, which was struck from .9167 fine gold at the West Point Mint, continues a series that started in 1986. It is the smallest of four coins in this issue.
Historic Saint-Gaudens Design
The design that appears on the obverse gets its name from Augustus Saint-Gaudens, who created it for the double eagle in 1907. It proved so popular that it was revived for the Gold Eagle series. Liberty stands at the center holding her torch and an olive branch. Her hair blows in a strong breeze, and she has her foot set upon a stone. In the background are a miniature rendering of the Capitol Dome and the rays of the morning sun. Fifty stars along the rim represent the states, including four that were added since the original design.
The national bird is honored on Miley Busiek's reverse. A male eagle carries an olive branch back to his nest, where his mate watches his return as she nestles their young.
Perfect MS70 FDI
The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation awarded this coin their highest grade, Mint State 70 (MS70). That grade is given only to coins that not only appear flawless to the unaided eye but also appear so under 5x magnification.
