Iconic Liberty Obverse and Stunning Bald Eagle Reverse

Liberty is depicted with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other on the obverse. This design is by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It was originally used for the Double Eagle when there were gold coins issued for circulation.

A nest of bald eagles can be seen on the reverse. Most of the family is in the nest and one of the adults has just returned with a branch. The inscriptions below the nest state the gold weight and face value.
