Why buy this (2018) 1934 $1,000 24K Gold Certificate Smithsonian Edition?

In 1933, the US went off the gold standard, but the following year, gold certificates were issued for use by Federal Reserve Banks. These notes were never issued for circulation, and most were destroyed in the 1960s when they went out of use. Several survive to this day and are housed in the Smithsonian. Now through a partnership with the Smithsonian, ModernCoinMart is able to offer these replicas of the certificates to our customers. Each note was struck from .1 g of .999 fine gold at a private mint and officially licensed by the Smithsonian.

Striking President Grover Cleveland Design

A portrait of President Grover Cleveland is at the center of the obverse. THe President's name is inscribed just below it. At the bottom are inscriptions of the certificate's country, "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," its face value, "ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS IN GOLD," and the inscription "PAYABLE TO BEARER ON DEMAND AS AUTHORIZED BY LAW." The last of these distinguishes the 1934 note from previous editions. The Smithsonian logo is on the left, and the note's face value is on the right and in the corners.

The certificate's country, "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and face value, "ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS," dominate the reverse. The certificate's face value is inscribed in numeric form, "1000," in each of the corners as well.

Stunning 70

This certificate earned Paper Money Grading's (PMG's) highest grade, 70. To receive that grade, a certificate must not have any signs of handling that is noticeable under 5x magnification. Also, its registration and margins must appear centered to the naked eye.

Don't miss your chance to own this Smithsonian Edition (2018) 1934 $1,000 24K Gold Certificate.
