Why add this 2017 Somalia 1 oz. Silver African Elephant coin to your collection?
The African Wildlife Elephant series, commemorating the world's largest land animal, continues to be a worldwide collector's favorite. For more than a decade, the Somalian Silver Elephant coins have been struck each year with a different reverse elephant design. Minted at the Bavarian State Mint in Germany, this coin is struck from 1 Troy oz. of .9999 fine silver, and measures 39mm in diameter. The design includes the privy mark for the 2017 Berlin World Money Fair (WMF) depicting the Urania World Clock in Berlin.
Stunning 2017 Elephant design
The reverse features a majestic elephant moving forward across the Serengeti, with its trunk raised in the air, a coconut tree and grass hut beyond, the WMF privy mark above. The border is inscribed "AFRICAN WILDLIFE," "ELEPHANT," and "1 oz. Ag 999.9."
The obverse bears the coat of arms for the Somali Republic: a horizontally striped shield bearing a single star, supported by two leopards. A ribbon wrapped around two crossed spears, as well as two crossed palm fronds, appears below the shield. Inscriptions include "SOMALI REPUBLIC," "2017," and "100 SHILLINGS."
