The portrait of George Washington sculpted by New York artist John Flanagan in 1932 adorns the obverse. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "QUARTER DOLLAR," along with the San Francisco "S" mintmark.
