Why order this 1 oz. Silver (2017) Smithsonian - Morgan's First Silver Dollars Commemorative Proof?
This Smithsonian 1 oz. Silver Morgan's First Silver Dollars Commemorative Proof is an exclusive offering from ModernCoinMart (MCM) in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution. George T. Morgan's personal sketchbook was uncovered in the archives of the museum, and soon enough, a forgotten design was found! Before George T. Morgan had even created the Morgan Dollars design he is known for, he created designs for a U.S. Trade Dollar! When the designs were not used, they remained in the sketchbook... until now!
This commemorative proof was authorized by the Smithsonian and struck from .999 fine silver at Germany's Mayer Mint. It carries George T. Morgan's original trade dollar designs, struck in exceptional quality!
Symbolic Liberty design by George T. Morgan
Both faces of this commemorative proof were the work of George T. Morgan. On the obverse, Liberty wears a "mob cap" to represent the middle class, which serves as a symbol that freedom belongs to all. The reverse image is an adaptation of the Eagle design that William Barber created for the Trade Dollar.
Flawless Proof 70 Ultra Cameo with Smithsonian Institution label
This piece earned the highest grade given out by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), Proof 70. That means that it lacks even a single imperfection that can be seen under 5x magnification. It also earned Ultra Cameo certification for its sharp contrasts between frosted devices and mirrored fields. NGC set the coin in a black core holder and printed grading information on a label that has both the name and logo of the Smithsonian Institution.
