Effigy Mounds National Monument, Iowa
The reverse of the issue features iconic animal or bird-shaped "effigy" mounds for which the park is named. These large burial mounds are perched on bluffs overlooking the mighty Mississippi River. The obverse of this issue features the John Flanagan designed portrait of George Washington that was based on the Jean Antoine Houdin sculpted bust of the President. This image was introduced to U.S. circulating coinage in 1932 on the quarter dollar.
Specimen 70 Uncirculated Brilliance
The Specimen 70 grade means that the coin itself is flawless when examined under magnification. The coins from this set feature the U.S. Mint's "Burnished" or uncirculated finish and have frosted design details and fields that create a distinctly different finish from proof coins. The planchets are polished using a metal-on-metal process prior to striking.
