Why purchase this Mint State 69 Silver 2017-(P) American Eagle?
Collectors of the extremely popular American Silver Eagle annual bullion issue now have a new way to collect with this 2017-(P) issue! The U.S. Mint recently provided information that enabled companies and individuals to determine where some Silver Eagles were struck in response to a Freedom of Information Act request. Accordingly, collectors can now amass pieces from each of the mints at which the coin is struck. This one was struck at the Philadelphia Mint.
Iconic Walking Liberty design by Adolph Weinman
The obverse of this coin features Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty design, which was revived for the Silver Eagle after first appearing on the half dollar in 1916. The image features Liberty presenting the morning sun as she bears branches of laurel and oak. The reverse image, which John Mercanti based on the Great Seal of the U.S., consists of an eagle guarding a shield and thirteen stars.
