Why purchase this GEM Brilliant Uncirculated 2 oz. Silver 2017-Mo Mexico Libertad?
Banco de Mexico continued its extremely popular series with this 2 oz. 2017-Mo Mexico Silver Libertad. The Libertad series is among the most sought-after bullion series every year, though it is particularly attractive to lovers because of some of its design elements. This coin bears the "Mo" Mint mark of Casa de Moneda de Mexico, where it was struck from .999 fine silver.
Powerful winged victory design
There are eleven separate designs on the obverse of this coin. Ten are spread throughout the rim. They represent different provinces in Mexico. At the center is the country's coat of arms. An eagle that is perched upon a cactus is eating a snake in an image that harks back to native religions, though most Westerners think of it simply in terms of the victory of good over evil. "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS" is inscribed just above the arms.
Winged Victoria dominates the reverse. The image is taken from a famous statue in Mexico City. The figure holds a broken chain and a laurel wreath, and her garment is falling away. The volcanoes in the distance are what gives the coin a particular appeal for lovers. Popocatepeti and Iztaccuhuati, the names of the volcanoes, came from lovers in stories that date back to pre-Columbian times. "2 ONZAS PLATA PURA 2017 LEY .999" arches around the top half of the rim.
