Why buy this Mexican PF70 2017-Mo 1/10 oz. Silver Libertad?
This 2017-Mo Mexican 1/10 oz. Silver Libertad is the latest edition of one of the world's most famous bullion coins. Issued by Banco de Mexico, this coin was struck from .999 fine silver at Casa de Moneda de Mexico. Libertad collectors are fiercely loyal to the coin, but this is also a great choice for collectors looking for government-issued fractional bullion.
Iconic Winged Victory design
The obverse of this coin is different from the larger coins in that it includes only the national seal, whereas larger coins have symbols of different regions of Mexico engraved along the rim. The national seal, which features an eagle perched on a cactus and eating a snake, is rich in symbolism from a native religion. Westerners, though, have simplified and reinterpreted it simply as the victory of good over evil. The name of the issuing country, "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS," arches over the image.
As with previous issues of the coin, the reverse features an image of Winged Victory, a statue that stands in Mexico City as a symbol of Mexican independence. Specifically, she holds a broken chain to symbolize her break from Spain. She also holds a laurel wreath. The coin is a popular choice for lovers because of the two volcanoes in the background, Popocatepeti and Iztaccuhuati, which are named for lovers in pre-Columbian lore.
This coin is certified by NGC to be in Proof 70 condition, indicating that it is in perfect condition as seen under 5x magnification. It is encapsulated with an exclusive Mexico Label to compliment the coin.
