Why should you add this 2017 Great Britain Coronation of King Canute - 1 oz. Silver Proof £5 Coin 1000th Anniversary
In celebration of the 1,000 anniversary of the coronation of King Canute, the Royal British Mint has released this 1 oz. silver coin with a historic design of the great king himself. This will be the first time the Royal British Mint has commemorated the coronation of the Christian king who, in penance for a warring past, was known for protecting the United Kingdom from Viking raids. He brought twenty years of peace to the British Isles, all the while encouraging the growth of trade and art.
Featuring the historic figure of King Canute
Appearing on the obverse of this silver coin is the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the fifth definitive portrait of Her Majesty introduced by the Royal British Mint since 1953. It was created by British Engraver Jody Clark.
Depicted on the reverse is a portrait of King Canute, sided with the commemorative dates of 1017-2017.
