Why order this British 2017 1 oz. Silver Piedfort A Century of Royal Service the Centenary of the House of Windsor Proof?
This 1 oz. Silver 2017 British Piedfort A Century of Royal Service the Centenary of the House of Windsor Proof was one of the several coins sharing the same design that marks the hundredth anniversary of King George V's pronouncement that the royal family would be changing its name from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor. He made the decision because he deemed it inappropriate for the British royal family to bear a German name while the British were fighting the Germans in World War I. Struck from .925 sterling silver, this double-thickness coin weighs 56.56 g and is part of a mintage of 5,500 pieces.
Stunning House of Windsor badge design
Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem serves as the coin's obverse design. The image is encircled by the monarch's name and title, "ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REGINA FID DEF" (abbreviated Latin for "Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith).
Timothy Noad designed the reverse. Based on the Badge of the House of Windsor that King George VI approved, it consists of a crown and a tower of Windsor Castle between branches. Rim inscriptions read, "CENTENARY OF THE HOUSE OF WINDSOR" and "2017."
