This release from the Royal British Mint is the third and latest issue from the Queens Beasts collection, a ten-part series which depicts ten heraldic beasts. These statues stood outside of the Westminster's abbey during Queen Elizabeth IIs coronation, with the third beast being the Red Dragon of Wales. This dragon was used during the sixteenth century for the Royal British coat of Arms.

Depicted on the obverse is the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II this portrait was created by artist Jody Clark and is the fourth of such effigies to appear on legal tender British coinage.
Featured on the reverse is the Red Dragon of Wales. This dragon was one of the statues which stood outside of the Westminster's Abbey while the new Queen was being crowned and depicted a piece of her heraldry.
