Why purchase this 2017 Proof Silver Scarab Beetle Collection?
This magnificent 3-coin Silver Proof Set commemorates just three of the more than 30,000 species of scarab beetles worldwide. Each incredibly beautiful 38.61 mm diameter proof is struck for issue by the Cook Islands from 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver by the Mayer Mint in Germany, with a mintage limited to only 499 sets.
Gorgeous High Relief colorized designs
The reverse images individually portray three distinct scarab beetle types, surrounded by a beautifully scrolled frame. The first, a gilded scarab with a black mirrored proof field, with the inscription "BLACK KINGDOM." A black-rhodium plated scarab reaches for a sparkling red Swarovski crystal representing the rising sun on the second coin, contrasted against a rose-gold plated background, inscribed "RED DAWN" below. The final, fully gilded coin, features a scarab symbolizing the flaming sun, along with the inscription "DESERT HEAT."
The obverses feature Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, inscribed "ELIZABETH II," "5 DOLLARS," "COOK ISLANDS" and "2017," surrounded by an intricate scrolled pattern.
