Why purchase this 2017 Canadian Phases of the Moon 3-Coin Silver GEM Proof Set?
The Royal Canadian Mint's Phases of the Moon silver proof set commemorates three of the moon's monthly phases, with unique faces depicted in the traditional Kwakwaka'wakw art style of the Pacific Northwest Coast Indigenous people. The three 50 mm diameter proofs are each struck from 2 Troy oz. of .9999 fine silver, enhanced by hand-filled translucent enamel, creating a remarkable shadowed effect. No more than 3,000 of these gorgeous 2017 Phases of the Moon proof sets will be minted.
Creative Phases of the Moon Designs
Each reverse features a design by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Andy Everson, portraying the moon as a progression from a fully darkened young face new moon, to a waxing gibbous moon in a mature, partially shadowed face, to a full moon depicted as a wise, exposed face.
The proofs share the same obverse design, the likeness of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt, surrounded by a textured maple leaf field inscribed "ELIZABETH II," "CANADA 2017," "D.G. REGINA" and "30 DOLLARS."
