Why order this Antiqued Silver 2017 $50 Canadian Peace Tower Clock - 90th Anniversary?
This 2017 $50 Canadian Antiqued Silver Peace Tower Clock - 90th Anniversary was issued to mark the Emerald Anniversary of this Canadian landmark. The clock is second only to the country's flag in terms of its prominence as a national symbol. This coin weighs 5 troy oz. and was struck from .9999 fine silver at the Royal Canadian Mint. It is part of a mintage of just 1,200 pieces, so it could soon be very difficult to find!
Stunning Clock Design by Calder Moore
The obverse design features the same image of Queen Elizabeth II that appears on nearly all other issues of the Royal Canadian Mint. Susanna Blunt shows the monarch wearing earrings and a necklace but no crown or tiara. The antique finish makes for a unique look at a familiar design. Only the Queen's name and title, "ELIZABETH II D.G. REGINA," are inscribed on this face.
Calder Moore's reverse connects the holder to Canada's architectural history. The design is a clock face from the Peace Tower Clock. The gears of the clock were made with oxidized copper from the roof of the Parliament building. This makes each coin unique with color variations and markings. Inscriptions on this face include "CANADA," "50 DOLLARS," and "2017."
