Why add this 2017 Silver Eagle to your numismatic collection?
When the American Silver Eagle was first introduced in 1986 to become the official silver bullion coin of the Unites States, the U.S. Mint revived one of their most cherished coin designs, that of Adolph A. Weinman's 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. This 2017 issue marks the 31st year of production of the Silver Eagle, its design unchanged throughout the series. Each Silver Eagle is struck from 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver, measures 40.6 mm in diameter, and weighs 31.1g.
Magnificent Walking Liberty design
The obverse of this magnificent coin depicts Lady Liberty gracefully wrapped in a beautifully draped and detailed American Flag, confidently advancing towards the rising sun, carrying a bouquet of laurel and oak branches in her left arm. The reverse, by U.S. Mint sculptor John Mercanti, portrays a heroic eagle with a shield grasping an olive branch and arrows, a reminder of the Great Seal of the United States. Thirteen stars patterned in a triangle to represent the original Colonies are inscribed above.
