The experts at Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) examined this (2017) $100,000 Gold Certificate - Smithsonian Edition 1934 (Treasury Specimen Sheet) and awarded it the GEM Uncirculated grade. The $100,000 Series 1934 Gold Certificate was legal tender and was used to transfer funds to and from Federal Reserve bank branches. This is a licensed Smithsonian Institution Series 1934 $100,000 Gold Certificate gold currency strike. Some of the original notes are held by the museum while the uncut sheets are held by the U.S. Treasury. These pieces are minted in 100mg of 24 karat gold. The mintage of this special issue is limited to 5,000 sheets.
Historic Woodrow Wilson Obverse
The obverse features Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the United States. He was in office from 1913 to 1921-- during World War I and the Versailles Peace Conference of 1919. The reverse of the note has the denomination $100,000 surrounded by an engraving.
