Why add the (2017) $100,000 Gold Certificate - Smithsonian Edition 1934 (Treasury Specimen Sheet) PMG 70 UNC to your collection?
This (2017) Treasury Specimen Sheet of $100,000 Gold Certificates - Smithsonian Edition 1934 was given the top grade of 70 (star) Gem Uncirculated and the EPQ designation from Paper Money Guaranty (PMG). This is an officially licensed Smithsonian Institution Series 1934 $100,000 Gold Certificate gold currency strike. Some of the original notes are held by the museum while the uncut sheets are held by the U.S. Treasury. These pieces are minted in 100 mg of 24 karat gold and recreate the seldom seen Series 1934 $100,000 Notes used after the 1933 gold recall in bank to bank fund transfers. The notes were used until the 1960s when most were destroyed. The mintage is limited to 5,000 sheets.
President Woodrow Wilson Obverse
The obverse image on the note is 28th President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson. He served from 1913 to 1921, which made him President during World War I and the Versailles Peace Conference in 1919. The reverse of the note features an elaborate engraving and the denomination $100,000.
70 Gem Uncirculated EPQ
These PMG graded notes have been sealed with a special Smithsonian logo label. The 70 grade automatically qualifies the specimen for the coveted Star designation and the Exceptional Paper Quality designation. Essentially, these are flawless examples.
