Why purchase this West Point Mint Hoard 30th Anniversary 2016-W 1 oz Silver Proof American Eagle? The Silver Eagle and Proof Silver Eagle celebrated their 30th anniversaries in 2016. This piece was a part of that historic issue, making it perfect for fans of the series, as well as other patriotic Americans. It was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver at the West Point Mint and bears that mint's "W" mint mark. Exquisite Walking Liberty Design of Adolph WeinmanThe coin's obverse design comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty Half Dollar, which was struck from 1916-1947. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap, which identifies her as a freed slave, and is draped in the American flag as she walks to the left side of this face. In her left arm are symbols of civilian honors, laurel branches, and military honors, oak branches. She extends her right hand forward above the morning sun, as though presenting the new day to the holder. Her name, "LIBERTY," arches over the image. Other obverse inscriptions include the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2016." John Mercanti created the reverse design for the Silver Eagle Series. Modeled off of the Great Seal of the United States, it features an eagle protecting a union shield. The eagle clutches a ribbon that unfurls over its head in its beak. The inscription reads, "E PLURIBUS UNUM." In its talons, the bird holds arrows, symbols of America's willingness to defend her values, and an olive branch, which expresses a desire for peace. Above the eagle's head are thirteen stars, which represent the original states. The name of the coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," its weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and its face value, "ONE DOLLAR," encircle the design along the rim. Impeccable PR70 DCAM with West Point Star LabelProfessional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) certified that this coin appears perfect even under 5x magnification by awarding it their highest grade, Proof 70.
