Why purchase this West Point Mint Hoard 2016-W 30th Anniversary 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle?
The Proof Silver Eagle marked its 30th anniversary in 2016. This Silver Eagle was part of the West Point Mint Hoard which exists because at the end of 2016, instead of melting down excess inventory that had not sold, the Mint decided to sell the excess to a buyer in a closed bid sale. Since 1986, the series has enamored collectors young and old with its stunning patriotic designs by two American numismatic legends. This coin comes from the 30th anniversary issue. It bears the "W" mint mark of the West Point Mint, where it was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver.
Featuring the Iconic Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
The obverse bears one of the most famous coin designs in American history, Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty. The design returned for the Silver Eagle Series after featuring on half dollars from 1916-1947. Liberty walks toward the left side of this face draped in the American flag and wearing a Phrygian cap on her head. The cap identifies her as a freed slave. She carries with her laurel branches, symbols of honors bestowed upon civilians, and oak branches, which represent honors bestowed upon members of the military. She extends her right hand forward above morning sun, which is emerging from beyond the horizon. Obverse inscriptions include her name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2016."
John Mercanti created a modified version of the Great Seal of the United States for the reverse. An eagle spreads its wings while protecting a union shield. In its beak is a ribbon that bears the phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The bird also holds arrows, symbols of America's readiness to defend her values, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, in its talons. At the top of the design are thirteen stars, which represent the original states. Three rim inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR" encircle the design.

Coin certification is a relatively recent addition to the coin collectors arsenal. It can provide plenty of advantages over housing your coins in their original mint packaging. ModernCoinMart offers plenty of professionally graded coins, but what exactly are the advantages of buying graded coins?
