Why purchase this Proof 70 Ultra Cameo First Day of Issue 2016-W Proof Silver Eagle with a black core holder?
To mark the 30th anniversary of the American Silver Eagle series of coins, the U.S. Mint added a new feature to this year's release. This is the first time that an inscription has been placed on the side of a proof Silver Eagle, or any coin in the series for that matter. This coin was struck at the West Point Mint.
Walking Liberty and a Heraldic Bald Eagle
The obverse shows the classic Walking Liberty design created by Adolph A. Weinman. Liberty can be seen making her way across the horizon here while the stars and stripes of our flag flow around her.
The reverse is where the mintmark and silver content can be found. This side displays Mercanti's heraldic bald eagle design. There are even 13 stars above the eagle for the original colonies.
Proof 70 Ultra Cameo First Day of Issue with a black core holder
This coin was submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as soon as it was released from the Mint, which is why it received the coveted First Day of Issue designation. This specimen is flawless and has great visual contrast, which earned it the grade of Proof 70 and the Ultra Cameo designation. It's protected by an aesthetic black core holder.
